Power system analysis

The power system is in a transition phase, where the integration of intermittent renewable electricity generation alters the system dynamic and increases the strain on the transmission and distribution grids.

RISE competences within power system analysis provides support through research and development of methods and solutions for operation and planning of the power system.

Being in a stable state is a prerequisite for the power system, and contingencies of significant changes constitutes risks for the integrity of the system and may ultimately result in large disturbances and blackout.

The power system analysis team develop simulation models of the power system and its components to be able to simulate the response of the system for various events. We use the simulation results, together with measurement data from real power systems,  to develop novel solutions to increase the capacity and operational security of the power system. In addition to classical power system stability, we work with innovative solutions for increased monitoring and control including phasor measurements, wide-area monitoring, and system protection schemes.
