Testbed for vacuum distillation

The testbed enables fractionation of various liquid mixtures, including bio-oils, crude oils, and fuel components. The pilot can be operated under vacuum, which lowers the temperature and enables separation of temperature-sensitive components. RISE also offers expertise and equipment for the characterization and handling of feedstocks and products.

Vacuum distillation is a technique used in refineries to separate crude oil, intermediate products, and fuels into different fractions with varying boiling points without thermal degradation. The distillation testbed at RISE can process up to 16 liters of liquid mixtures per batch at pressures as low as 1 mbar. During operation, the distillation process can be monitored and controlled to optimize separation.

In addition to vacuum distillation, RISE offers complementary analytical services to characterize feedstocks and product fractions, as well as testbeds for upstream or downstream processing.
