From Dialogue to Collective Action

Complex societal challenges require more than traditional meetings and linear project plans. They demand a shared understanding of systems, trade-offs, and driving forces — along with a structure that enables organizations to move from analysis to action.

The purpose of the method lab is to:

  • Create shared understanding around a complex issue

  • Make system dependencies, risks, and development opportunities visible

  • Activate participants as co-creators rather than passive listeners

  • Build organizational capacity and resilience

The overall aim is to strengthen the organization’s ability to navigate uncertainty, manage change, and develop sustainable solutions across organizational boundaries.

Co-Creation and Gamified System Innovation

The method lab is designed in close collaboration with the client, based on the specific societal challenge, target group, and level of ambition. It can focus on areas such as AI and digitalization, regional resilience, climate adaptation, skills supply, public safety, or other strategic priorities.

At its core is an escape room–inspired format where participants work with thematically adapted cases and assignments. Through a structured and stepwise process — with defined roles, time frames, and clear missions — participants explore the current situation, risks, and trade-offs before shifting toward system redesign and solution development.

The method can be combined with:

  • System mapping and analysis of drivers and interdependencies

  • Realization and implementation of strategies and roadmaps

  • Scenario development and future exploration

  • Reflective dialogue and norm-critical analysis

  • Prototyping and testing of new ways of working

  • Practical use of relevant tools (such as AI tools, policy tools, or simulation exercises)

The format can be delivered as a standalone method lab or as part of a longer development or transformation process. It may serve as a starting point for change, a deepening component within an ongoing initiative, or a catalyst in strategic decision-making. The work is carried out at the client’s premises, in regional contexts, or at RISE facilities.

Leverans för handling och framdrift

Deliverables are defined in dialogue with the client and may include:

  • A summary of identified risks, system linkages, and development areas

  • A visualized system map or current-state analysis

  • Prioritized action proposals at individual, organizational, and system levels

  • Recommendations for redesign of processes, governance, or ways of working

  • Presentation and decision support material for management or steering groups

  • Recommendations for continued implementation and follow-up

The method lab may also be followed by in-depth analysis, pilot projects, strategic process support, research initiatives, or innovation projects depending on needs and ambition level.

The objective of the deliverable is not only documentation, but to create clear direction and sustained momentum in the organization’s development journey.
