Program for a Sustainable Surface Treatment Industry - SSTI

SSTI (Sustainable Surface Treatment Industry) is a national program for collaboration and research on surface treatment processes, with a focus on industrialisation, regulation and policy, as well as sustainable manufacturing.

Purpose of SSTI

The aim is to, based on the shared sustainability, research, and development needs of companies operating in Sweden, bring together expertise, applied research, and development within sustainability, industrial processes, and systems for surface treatment and coatings.

The work within SSTI will enable its members to:

  • Reduce environmental impact.
  • Create a good working environment.
  • Serve as a tool for sustainable manufacturing.
  • Maintain effective communication with their value chain and within their own organization.

SSTI - Areas of Activity

SSTI’s activities aim to transform surface treatments into a tool for sustainable development by:

  • Creating an accessible source for evaluating surface treatments and supporting decision‑making.
  • Establishing a neutral platform for communication within the surface treatment sector and throughout the value chain.
  • Monitoring regulations and policies, and leading dialogue with decision‑makers and legislators.
  • Developing competencies and initiating research projects. Applications for larger initiatives, such as publicly funded projects and EU projects, will be generated within the framework of SSTI.

Membership in SSTI offers:

  • A resource for problem‑solving.
  • Increased competence and expertise.
  • Identification of development needs.
  • Creation and implementation of projects.
  • Research and development synergies for the members.
  • Access to the latest knowledge on current international development trends.
  • Participation in the development of policies, regulations, and standards related to sustainability.
  • A neutral arena for dialogue with authorities.
