Vijeta Sharma is an HPC-AI expert at the Sweden AI Factory at RISE, with 16+ years of R&D experience spanning high-performance computing, artificial intelligence, academia, and industry. She holds a Master’s degree in Data Science and a PhD focused on the convergence of AI and HPC.
Her research interests include Artificial Intelligence, Computer Vision and video analytics, Human Action Recognition, Deep Learning, Large Vision Models (LVMs), High-Performance Computing, Embodied AI, Edge AI, and Robotics. Her particular passion lies in "AI on HPC", with a focus on AI model parallelisation across heterogeneous accelerators, including CPUs, GPUs, and TPUs, as well as performance optimisation and energy-efficient computing.
At RISE, she contributes to the development of AI-HPC capabilities and collaborations within the Swedish and European HPC ecosystem. She is also one of the organisers of the international workshop “AI on HPC – Performance Engineering, Challenges and Opportunities,” held in conjunction with ISC and SC conferences.
Before joining RISE, She worked 3 years as Postdoctoral Researcher at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), Norway, where she conducted research in HPC-AI and Robotics and also teaching, supervision, and research training. She has supervised more than 25 Bachelor’s and Master’s theses.
In 2011 she joined Centre for Development of Advanced Computing : C-DAC (an R&D organisation under the Government of India) as Engineer. During her tenure, she contributed to projects spanning defence, healthcare, and the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), as well as India’s National Supercomputing Mission (NSM) project. At the National PARAM Supercomputing Facility (NPSF), she served as HPC-AI application specialist and worked with PARAM Siddhi-AI, India’s first AI supercomputer (2021), focusing on scientific and AI application porting, tuning, benchmarking, and performance optimisation, while mentoring researchers in HPC-AI.
She has held several leadership and community roles, including serving on the Board of Women in HPC (WHPC), Chairing the WHPC TechTalk at ISC 2026, mentoring through WHPC programmes, and supporting student initiatives at SC and ISC. She is a global speaker and has delivered more than 100 invited and technical talks. Through her research, leadership, mentoring, and community-building activities, she is passionate about advancing AI on HPC and empowering the next generation of HPC-AI researchers and innovators.
