Muhammad Zia Ul Haq
TIC-ingenjör
Zia is a Sustainable Energy Processes Engineer with multidisciplinary training in energy systems, chemical engineering, and industrial safety. He holds an M.Sc. in Sustainable Energy Processes from the University of Borås, Sweden, and a B.Eng. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Lancaster, United Kingdom. He also holds Postgraduate Diplomas in Business Administration and Project Management, complemented by certifications in Kaizen, IOSH Managing Safely, and Risk Assessment. He is a registered member of the Engineering Council UK, Sveriges Ingenjörer, and the Engineering Council Pakistan.
At RISE in Borås, Zia works within the field of electrochemical safety and material process evaluation. His core responsibilities include:
- Battery Abuse Testing: short‑circuit, overcharge, forced discharge, cycling, and EIS‑based diagnostics for characterizing degradation, impedance evolution, and failure modes.
- Battery Recycling Processes: involvement in direct recycling, hydrometallurgical, and pyrometallurgical routes for recovery of active materials from Li‑ion and next‑generation chemistries.
- Post‑Mortem Analysis: mechanical opening, disassembly, and structural/electrochemical assessment of cells under inert atmosphere using glove‑box procedures.
- Material Emissions Testing: measurement and characterization of formaldehyde emissions from wood‑based materials following relevant standards and analytical methods.
His industrial background spans pharmaceuticals, battery manufacturing, and chemical processing, with experience in process optimization, safety systems, and continuous‑improvement frameworks.
Zia’s work supports development and validation of testing methodologies, safety protocols, and circular‑economy approaches in energy‑storage systems. His technical interests include battery degradation mechanisms, recycling process efficiency, and materials characterization for improved safety and sustainability across energy technologies.
