Sound and Vibration Measurement on Handheld Machines
When using handheld machines in various operations, there are risks related to both noise and vibrations that can directly affect health and workplace safety.
Purpose
Prolonged use at high noise levels can impact hearing and cause stress. Vibrations can lead to injuries in hands and arms. With RISE’s professional services for accredited noise and vibration measurements, you can be assured that your machines meet the requirements and that the work environment is safe.
Why is Vibration Measurement Important?
According to the Swedish Work Environment Authority’s regulations (AFS 2023:10), employers must assess and limit hand-arm vibration exposure. The limit values are:
- Action value (A(8)): 2.5 m/s²
- Exposure limit value: 5.0 m/s²
Why is Noise Measurement Important?
According to the Swedish Work Environment Authority’s regulations (AFS 2023:10), employers must assess and limit noise exposure in the workplace. Noise can cause hearing damage, tinnitus, and affect concentration, performance, and overall health.
Noise exposure limit values:
- Action values (LEX,8h):
- Lower action value: 80 dB(A)
- Upper action value: 85 dB(A)
- Daily exposure level (LpAFmax): 85 dB(A)
- Peak value (LpCpeak): 135 dB(C)
Exceeding these values can have both legal and health-related consequences. Employers are required to implement measures such as hearing protection, technical solutions, and training to reduce risks.
