Digital Ecosystem for Sustainable End-to-End Solutions in construction

The project DIG develops a digital ecosystem for sustainable infrastructure construction by connecting planning, material deliveries, production and reporting in a seamless end-to-end information flow. The project enables automation, AI-driven optimisation, and digital twins to improve efficiency, transparency and sustainability.

About the project

The construction and infrastructure sector is often characterised by fragmented information flows, where planning, material deliveries, production and follow-up activities are managed in separate systems. This results in manual work, inefficient coordination and limited possibilities for making decisions based on up-to-date information.

The project Digital Ecosystem for Sustainable End-to-End Solutions in construction (DIG) develops a digital ecosystem with end-to-end functionality that connects the entire construction process, from design and material deliveries to execution and reporting. By integrating independent systems and data sources, the project creates a unified information environment where real-time data can be used for automation, optimisation, and improved collaboration between stakeholders.

The project builds on previous research and industrial collaborations in digitalisation, interoperability and automated data flows within the construction and infrastructure sector.

Purpose and objectives

The purpose of the project is to develop and evaluate methods for automated data management and AI-driven optimisation supported by digital twins in infrastructure construction operations.

The project aims to contribute to:

  • Seamless and automated information flows between systems and organisations.
  • Improved planning, coordination and follow-up through digital twins.
  • Increased transparency and traceability throughout the construction process.
  • Reduced administration and fewer manual errors.
  • More efficient resource utilisation and improved sustainability.

What will be developed?

The project focuses on developing and demonstrating:

  • A digital ecosystem that connects the systems of different stakeholders.
  • Standardised and automated data flows.
  • Digital twins for simulation, planning and optimisation.
  • AI-supported analysis and decision-making.
  • Methods for robust, reliable and scalable information sharing.

Expected impacts

Through a shared digital infrastructure, the construction and infrastructure sector can:

  • Streamline work processes.
  • Improve coordination between stakeholders.
  • Reduce costs and resource waste.
  • Increase data quality and information security.
  • Enable future autonomy, automation and data-driven operations.
