The sensible value chain - SCARCE II

In SCARCE II, a demonstrator will show how SMEs and associated value flows can increase efficiency, competitiveness, sustainability and internal collaboration through digitalisation. The goal is to show the value of a new digital solution.

SCARCE, Sensible Value Chain through Digitalized Planning, Material Handling and Circular Economy, focuses on two subcontractors in the value chain linked to Scania and Volvo. The demonstrator is a cloud-based solution that connects three test beds in the industry; Stena Industry Innovation Lab, Chalmers, RISE IVF lab, Mölndal and KTH's test bed in Södertälje with the help of Siemens, AFRY, Qbim, Virtual Manufacturing and EQPack.

The effects identified are in three areas: supply chain planning, automation of material handling and circular economy. The KPIs identified are increased capacity 30%, increased adaptability 20%, increased process quality 15%, reduced manual handling and stress, reduced lead time 20%, increased energy efficiency 30%, reduced climate impact by 50% (from transport and material handling).

Two pilots will be developed in SCARCE II: automation and material handling as well as packaging handling. These will be developed together with SMEs and parties to the project and will then be linked through the demonstrator. The work is interdisciplinary and a reference group will be invited during the project to think about partial results. Participants in the reference group are representatives from Scania, Stena Metall, Runesson (haulage) and the Digitala Stambanan.
