New bio-based HPL and LPL
New bio-based high-pressure and low-pressure laminates (HPL and LPL) with lignin-based resin for the construction and furniture industry
The aim of the study is to demonstrate the production of 100% bio-based HPL and LPL with good properties, alternatively with minimized use of fossil components. In the study, the fossil-based component phenol formaldehyde (PF), which is currently largely used as a binder for HPL and LPL, will be replaced with lignin, a residual product from the manufacture of regenerated cellulose fibers. After the project is completed, the results will be used to support a larger application with an industrial focus on manufacturing and development of business models for fully bio-based construction laminates.
During the course of the project, several parties have joined the project and contributed to the achievement of the project's goals:
- surfactor Germany GmbH, https://www.surfactor.com/ och
- Södra Skogsägarna ek. förening, https://www.sodra.com/sv/se/
