ICE Edge aims to develop a concept and prototype of a new type of sustainable, energy and computationally efficient platform to provide edge capacity for e.g. Artificial Intelligence (AI) applications. It consists of both hardware nodes and software architecture integrated with ICE Data Center and Luleå University of Technology's (LTU) 5G test bed.
A RISE feasibility study will develop a concept with hardware, software and sensor packages for edge hardware nodes and produce a foundation for implementing edge in RISE test and demo facilities and other test beds that need edge functionality. LTU finances the implementation of two edge nodes, a software solution for distributed computing, a simulator for software developers to test their applications and connection of the prototypes to the 5G test bed. The project will increase RISE and LTUs capacity to help Swedish industry start and accelerate 5G and AI development. This project will be the first step towards a national 5G test bed where developers can develop applications that need low latency. Examples of applications with low latency requirements are AI inference, control and automation, detection, gaming, filtering, aggregation, IoT and content caching.
