Testbed for accelerated corrosion testing

Testbed for accelerated corrosion testing offers testing to compare materials and material combinations and corrosion protection systems in different atmospheric environments. We offer a large number of accelerated tests in corrosion, climate and salt spray chambers.

We offer tests in climate chambers equipped to vary the environment during exposure in a controlled manner. The varied parameters include temperature, relative humidity, salilnity and UV light. The test is adapted to the conditions to be simulated.

Corrosion testing is used to select or evaluate materials, pre-treatment, surface treatment, coating, design, corrosion protection and for quality control. This type of testing is useful to combine with mobile corrosion testing or atmospheric corrosion testing.

We are approved suuplier for Volvo AB and Scania CV.

Tests we offer

Testbed for accelerated corrosion testing offers the following standardized tests:

  • Volvo STD 423-0014 – Accelerated corrosion testing – ACT I
  • Volvo STD 423-0069 - Accelerated corrosion test, version II – ACT II
  • Volvo VCS 1027,1449 - Accelerated corrosion test, version II – ACT II
  • Scania STD 4319 – Accelerated corrosion test – ACT I
  • Scania STD 4445 - Accelerated corrosion test, version II (ACT2)
  • Ford CETP: 00.00-L-467 – Laboratory Accelerated Cyclic corrosion test
  • Renault ECC1 – Essai de corrosion par changement automatique des phases bs humidité et séchage
  • VDA 233-102 - Cyclic corrosion testing of materials and components in automotive construction
  • SS-EN ISO 11997-3 - Determination of resistance to cyclic corrosion conditions - Part 3: Testing of coating systems on materials and components in automotive construction
  • SS-EN ISO 11997-1 Determination of resistance to cyclic corrosion conditions -- Part 1: Wet (salt fog)/dry/humid
  • VDA 621-415 – Cyclic corrosion testing of materials and components in automotive construction
  • SS-EN ISO 16701 - Corrosion of metals and alloys — Corrosion in artificial atmosphere — Accelerated corrosion test involving exposure under controlled conditions of humidity cycling and intermittent spraying of a salt solution
  • SS-EN ISO 9227 – Corrosion tests in artificial atmospheres — Salt spray tests
  • ASTM B 117 - Standard Practice for Operating Salt Spray (Fog) Apparatus
  • SS-EN ISO 4623-2 – Paints and varnishes - Determination of resistance to filiform corrosion - Part 2: Aluminium substrates

We also offer customized tests according to your company's needs. We can suggest a suitable test and evaluation based on the circumstances. RISE can also assist in sample preparation, for example degreasing, scribing and edge protection before the testing starts and different types of evaluation including reporting after completed tests. Evaluation is decided together with the customer and can also be performed during the course of the test.

The following list gives a few examples of common evaluation methods after completing the test:

  • SS-EN ISO 4628 - Paints and varnishes - Evaluation of degradation of coatings - Designation of quantity and size of defects, and of intensity of uniform changes in appearance
Part 2: Assessment of degree of blistering (ISO 4628-2)
Part 3: Assessment of degree of rusting (ISO 4628-3)
Part 8: Assessment of degree of delamination and corrosion around a scribe or other artificial defect (ISO 4628-8)
Part 10: Assessment of degree of filiform corrosion  (ISO 4628-10)
  • Scania STD4271 - Surface treatment – Scribe marks and evaluating the extent of damage
  • Volvo VCS 1021,29 - Scribing of coated test object and evaluation of propagation of corrosion from scribed line
