Purpose

The purpose of the test is to determine the structure's ability to provide thermal insulation.

Method

The thermal transmittance coefficient (U-value) of a structure is determined by testing or calculation.

Testing of windows/doors is carried out according to standard EN ISO 12567-1:2017 or EN ISO 12567-2:2017. Normally tests are carried out for the size 1.23m x 1.48m (window), but other formats can also be used.

For building elements, the standard EN ISO 8990:2000 can also be applied. In this case, the format may be adapted to the testing equipment and nominal dimensions of the material.

Calculation of building structures is carried out according to drawings and descriptions provided by the customer. The procedure is described in the standards EN ISO 10077-1 and 10077-2:2017.

Usually, fixed prices for testing can be stated, but for calculation, access to descriptions and drawings is needed to determine time and cost.

Delivery

The results are reported in a written report that describes how the test item has performed.

The report includes descriptions, relevant accompanying images and drawings.

The report can be used as a basis for a compiled ITT report and/or as a basis for the manufacturer's declaration of performance for CE marking.

Other

At our building physics lab, we also perform testing/calculations on other materials and building systems - see more in the related services below.

  • Calculation of additional heat losses at material junctions (ѱ value)
  • Calculation of U-value for construction (EN 6946) and for glass packages (EN673:2024) doors (EN???)
  • Testing of thermal conductivity (EN12667:2000 or EN12667:200??)
  • Testing of risk of condensation in windows for external/internal surface and inside construction.
  • Testing of various properties of thermal insulation materials such as dimensions (length, width, thickness), water absorption etc.
  • Testing of radon transmission for different material layers
