District-wide shared use of parking facilities and mobility services
The SÖMS 2 project – District-wide Shared Use of Parking and Mobility Services – aims to establish Gamlestaden in Gothenburg as a full-scale proof of concept for how parking, charging infrastructure, and mobility services can be coordinated at the district level.
By bringing together property owners, mobility providers, and the public sector, the project develops a shared-use model that increases the utilization of existing infrastructure and improves access to shared mobility services.
At its core, the project develops and tests a scalable collaboration and business model, supported by a digital platform that integrates data on parking, charging, and mobility services. The platform enables data-driven optimization, an improved user experience, and a shared marketplace for mobility services. This is tested in a real-world environment where resources are interconnected and made available to residents, businesses, and visitors.
The project addresses a clear knowledge gap regarding how shared-use solutions can be organized in existing urban districts with multiple stakeholders. Through systematic evaluation of impacts on occupancy rates, service usage, customer experience, and user behavior, evidence is generated to support scaling. The results are translated into guidelines and recommendations for implementation in other districts.
Expected outcomes include a reduced need for private car ownership, increased resource efficiency in existing infrastructure, and improved access to sustainable mobility options, contributing to more transport-efficient and vibrant urban districts.
