Project updates – spring 2025

05 June 2025, 15:27

Since the beginning of this year, the project partners, which include companies and research institutes, have worked together to select biomasses that are both commercially relevant and scientifically interesting to study. The focus is on using forestry and agricultural residues and other sustainable biomass, such as pine sawdust, wheat straw, softwood bark, sugarcane bagasse, forest residues, and wood waste.

A major focus within LowCoBio involves investigating how the composition of different types of biomass affects corrosion and production processes. This knowledge is crucial for developing robust, efficient production methods that can reduce corrosion-related issues without compromising product quality.

”During the spring, we have focused on biomass feedstock selection and sourcing,” says project coordinator Linda Sandström, RISE. “This is needed for detailed planning of the pyrolysis work package, where the biomass feedstocks will be converted into bio-oils. Now we are ready to initiate bio-oil production and will in the upcoming weeks begin detailed planning of the other work packages.”
