In the Sustainable Material Systems department, we have a strong focus on advanced material solutions.
We work with development and innovation as well as testing, analysis, and validation. In the field of composites, we specialize in composite design, material development, recycling, remanufacturing, characterization, processing, and material analysis, offering a broad spectrum of services. In addition, we support the development of material models, structural optimization, and experimental validation, such as impact and crash testing.
The department also includes accredited testing with a focus on durability, accelerated aging, and quality assurance in production and product certification, as well as the development and testing of traditional and bio-based materials, products, and processes with an emphasis on damage investigation and durability.
Bio-based and circular materials are a key focus area, and in our operations related to polymeric materials, we have strong expertise in material recycling, including both mechanical and chemical recycling, as well as material and process development of polymeric materials. We also have high competence in fiber-based materials, including material and process development with a focus on recycled or bio-based raw materials and fibers with specific functions. RISE offers innovation support for the textile industry's transition – from research ideas to sustainable and competitive solutions. With cutting-edge expertise, advanced testing and demonstration environments, and technical infrastructure, we support the entire value chain: strategy, material selection, design, material development, testing, certification, and textile recycling.
Sustainability and compliance are key strengths within the department. We have extensive expertise in life cycle analysis and offer both LCA and sLCA as well as environmental product declarations (EPD). "Safe and Sustainable by Design" is a framework of growing importance, and we are happy to assist in these matters. The department is home to the Swedish Centre for Chemical Substitution as well as the Chemicals Group and has been certifying according to OEKO-TEX since 1993.
