Daniel Flemström
Senior Forskare
Daniel is a senior researcher at RISE, holding a PhD from Mälardalen University focusing on signal-based testing of vehicular safety-critical systems. With extensive experience in both academia and industry, he excels in bridging the gap between theoretical research and practical application, particularly in the fields of embedded software, software testing, and data analysis.
Before joining RISE, Daniel was a project manager and key participant in numerous industrial research projects at Mälardalen University. From 2005 to 2014, he built a secure industrial research lab in collaboration with Ericsson AB and ABB, enabling the industrial application of academic research within an academic environment. He has also authored and delivered several courses on 800xA usage, maintenance, and core system programming for ABB University.
Project Highlights:
Digital Earth Sweden: In this project, we develop a platform for collecting, processing, and making satellite data accessible. Daniel has, among other things, contributed to implementing a distributed computing cluster for EO-data calculations, created an architecture for a system to locate, download, and process data, and designed and deployed a Kubernetes cluster. Additionally, he has trained the team and established software engineering processes and methods for developing such systems.
SAGA Project: As a PhD student, Daniel collaborated with Alstom, Scania, Volvo CE, and MdU to create a language and toolbox for writing and analyzing tests for signal-based embedded systems.
RELIANCE Project: Together with Alstom, Westermo, and Eduro, he designed and implemented a system for data collection and analysis of measurement data from trains, and developed a simulation framework for testing various connectivity scenarios.
PRINDIT Project: Daniel worked on data analysis to evaluate survey responses, providing insights and recommendations based on the collected data.
Startup Experience: Prior to his PhD, he founded and operated a research startup focused on pre-development projects in collaboration with SICS AB from 2011 to 2014. This experience honed his skills in project management, innovation, and collaboration.
His expertise in building secure research labs, developing advanced data processing systems, and leading and educating teams makes him a valuable asset to any research and development initiative. His work is characterized by a commitment to excellence and innovation in both research and practical applications.
