RISE Research Institutes of Sweden and Japanese technology company MK Plus (Vanadis Energy) has established a long-term strategic collaboration focused on the development of advanced battery technologies, with a particular emphasis on Vanadium Solid State Batteries.

Peter Alberius, RISE, Dina Dedic, RISE, Masahiro Noguchi, CTO MK Plus, Kazumasa Kurokawa, CEO MK Plus Malin Frenning CEO RISE, Magnus Larsson, RISE, Masahiro Nomura, RISE and Juhanes Aydin, RISE.
The collaboration combines MK Plus’s industrial ambitions in next-generation energy storage with RISE’s expertise in carbon materials, battery systems and related production technologies. Together, the parties intend to drive innovation across several critical areas, including carbon raw material development, adhesive layers between battery sheets, and electrolyte improvement. RISE will additionally support MK Plus in organizing grant applications and academic relations.
“This collaboration with MK Plus strengthens Sweden’s position in advanced battery materials and enables the development of strategically important technologies” says Malin Frenning, CEO of RISE. “By combining industrial commitment with leading research, we create strong conditions for both innovation and commercialization.”
The collaboration between RISE and MK Plus follows MK Plus’s procurement of Enerpoly AB. Enerpoly was a Stockholm-based battery technology company specializing in zinc-ion energy storage solutions.
“I deeply appreciate the key role RISE played in supporting MK PLUS’s acquisition of Enerpoly’s assets,” says Kazumasa Kurokawa, CEO of MK PLUS. “We look forward to working closely with RISE to localize logistics and raw material production in Sweden and to advance both battery performance and manufacturing efficiency through their expertise.”
The partnership reflects a shared ambition to contribute to the global transition toward sustainable and secure energy storage solutions, while strengthening Swedish industrial and research capabilities in the battery sector.
