3D-scanning and geometrical analysis

ATOS is an optical 3D-scanning system for non-contact measurement of details for digitisation and geometry analysis. The system enables conversion of three-dimensional surfaces to point clouds and after further processing to CAD models.

Purpose

ATOS can be seen as a fast, portable and non-contact coordinate measuring machine, which provides millions of measuring points.

Method

The ATOS (Advanced Topometric Sensor) digitisation system digitises the measuring object quickly and easily with a high local measuring point resolution and accuracy. The ATOS system works based on the triangulation principle. It captures each individual 3D-measuring point via two different methods in a quasi-triangular measurement. During the measurement, a fringe pattern is projected on the measuring object and captured by two cameras. During a scan, several million 3D-points are created. To capture complex objects completely, different partial views are combined and the system transforms these measurements into a global coordinate system. To do this, the system uses reference points (circular point markers) that are applied to or near the measuring object.

Deliveries

The delivery from a 3D-scan can be almost anything from a point cloud for the measurement object to a report with geometric analysis and comparisons to nominal CAD data. In addition, the scan data can also be taken further and made into CAD-geometry for export.
