Oil repellency of textiles according to SS-EN ISO 14419
Some textiles are given an enhanced product performance by adding a soil- and oil-repellent treatment to its functional surfaces.
Water and oil repellent properties of surfaces improve its weather resistance, make them easier to clean, which can reduce maintenance costs and extend its original appearance
At our Textile Laboratory we can offer testing of soil- and oil repellent properties.
The method applies to testing of most types of fabrics, including fabrics in technical use, nonwoven and ready-to-wear articles.
The method is not intended to measure the resistance to penetration of chemicals.

Purpose
The method aims to analyse the oil- and soil repellent ability of fabrics.
For materials that should have a soil- and oil repellent surface, this method is a guide for assessing the suitability of materials for its intended application. The higher the grade, the better the material resists soil- and oil substances.
The method can also be used to compare various soil- and oil repellent treatments as well as provide information on the persistence of such treatment after, for example, washing.
Method
5 drops of the respective standard test liquid, consisting of a selected series of hydrocarbons with different surface tensions, are placed on the surface of the test material. There are 8 standard test liquids and should be applied in the order 1-8. No. 1 has the lowest surface tension and No. 8 has the highest.
The drops are observed at 45º angle for 30 s with respect to absorption, wicking and contact angle.
The material's soil- and oil repellency is graded as the highest numbered test liquid that is not absorbed by the test material surface within 30 seconds.
