OEKO-TEX® ECO PASSPORT is an independent third-party certification for chemicals, dyestuffs and auxiliaries used in the manufacture of textile and leather products. The certification verifies that the chemicals meet defined safety criteria – before they enter production.
What is OEKO-TEX® ECO PASSPORT
OEKO-TEX® ECO PASSPORT is a certification for chemical suppliers. It is aimed at manufacturers and distributors of chemicals, dyestuffs and auxiliaries used in the textile and leather industry.
The certification verifies that every individual substance in a chemical product is not harmful to human health and that the product complies with applicable legislation – including REACH. Limit values for harmful substances are reviewed at least once a year.
ECO PASSPORT also functions as a pre-certification within the OEKO-TEX® system: certified chemicals can reduce testing costs when applying for STANDARD 100, LEATHER STANDARD and STeP.
In brief:
Certification of chemicals, dyestuffs and auxiliaries before they enter production
Can provide the basis for ZDHC certification at levels 1–3 depending on which steps are completed
Can function as pre-certification for STANDARD 100, LEATHER STANDARD and STeP
Certificate valid for one year
Who is the certification for?
ECO PASSPORT is relevant for:
Manufacturers and distributors of chemicals, dyestuffs and auxiliaries for the textile and leather industry who want to document and communicate responsible chemical management
Brands and purchasing organisations that require verified chemical safety in their supply chain
Manufacturing companies preparing for STeP or STANDARD 100 certification
How it works
ECO PASSPORT consists of three stages, of which the first two are mandatory:
CAS number screening – The product's ingredients are compared against the OEKO-TEX® list of restricted substances
Analytical verification – Laboratory testing at an OEKO-TEX®-accredited laboratory
Self-assessment and on-site visit – Review of the company's chemical management practices (optional, required for ZDHC levels 2–3)
Benefits of ECO PASSPORT certification
