Testing of textile material according to Möbelfakta

Möbelfakta is an environmental label for furniture. In order to be able to Möbelfakta mark a piece of furniture that includes textile materials, it must, among other things, meet Möbelfakta's requirements.The RISE textile materials laboratory can test according to the criteria in Möbelfakta's requirements document regarding the textile materials.

Purpose

RISE helps you find out if your textile meets the requirements according to Möbelfakta's requirement specification.
This can be used as a basis to demonstrate that the material fulfill Möbelfakta's requirements or further as a basis for Möbelfakta labeling of furniture.

Methods according to note 1.5.2 Textile (indoor furniture) and 1.5.3 Textile (outdoor furniture and parasol, sun protection).

Pilling is a phenomenon that occurs during use and washing. Pills are tangled fibres/fibre ends that are stuck to the fabric surface. As we use and move in our clothes, abrasion/rubbing occurs on different surfaces, which leads to that fibres/fibre ends are pulled up from the surface and fuzzing and pills can appear. Textile materials have different ability to form pills and fuzzing, depending on the nature of the fibre/yarn, the fabric's construction and if finished. At our Textile laboratory we have several Martindale machines for testing of pilling and fuzzing. The method concerns testing of woven and knitted fabrics (not heavy knitwear)

Textile colour fastness

One of the most important quality criteria for coloured textiles is their ability to retain their colour and not to cause dyeing or colour change. Colour change usually means colour loss. Staining, the ability of colour to bleed from one material to another.

Dimensional change according to SS-EN ISO 5077

Textile materials that are washed often change shape and size. This change can be both increase in size or decrease in size (shrinkage). The magnitude of this change is crucial to the function of the material.

It is important that dyed textiles maintain their intended colour and do not bleed onto other fabrics and materials through staining. When we sweat, fabrics that come into contact with the skin can be affected, and if the colour does not adhere as it should, it can cause unwanted staining.
