Purpose

This standard is a classification-standard, that only refers to other test standards. The standard is used to assess, depending on end-use environment, which fire test the upholstery furniture needs to be tested according to. Upholstered furniture for domestic use is not covered by this standard, instead the “Furniture and Furnishings (Fire) (Safety) Regulations 1988” with amendments is applied.

In the United Kingdom, all non-domestic furniture, are required to be classified by the hazard categories - low, medium, high and very high risk. Depending on the use of the furniture , different test standards are referred to.

Method

The test procedure varies, depending on the test method. See each test method for more information.
