LESIA - Local Energy Systems in Industrial Areas - Final Seminar

The LESIA project has been carried out by RISE during 2023–2025 in collaboration with Borås Stad, Borås Energi & Miljö, Nätkraft Borås, Viareds Företagarförening, and engaged companies in the Viared industrial area.

Throughout the project, we have explored opportunities and challenges linked to local energy systems and energy communities in the Swedish industrial context. Using Viared as a case study, we have examined technical possibilities, economic conditions, and social perspectives to better understand what future energy collaboration could look like.

During the seminar, we will present key insights, highlight scenario results, and discuss potential pathways toward more resilient and sustainable energy solutions for industrial areas.

Examples of questions we will address:

1. What motivates/hinders companies in industrial areas from collaborating on energy?
2. What technical potential for local energy exists in an industrial area such as Viared?
3. Which energy‑sharing solutions are realistically possible within today’s Swedish regulatory framework—and what do they mean in practice for an industrial area?
4. How do alternative energy community scenarios affect system benefits in an industrial area?

The presentation will be held in English and recorded for sharing, while the question-and-answer session will be held in Swedish and will not be recorded.
