Projects in energy transmission

Inverter-Driven Instabilities (IDI) is a growing challenge associated with increased use of renewable energy sources (RES). The project develops platforms and tools to analyze these instabilities and proposes improvements in power system control and operation to enable higher RES penetration and more efficient use of existing infrastructure.

The rapid electrification of the vehicle fleet presents new challenges for the power grid – but also new opportunities. By mapping where EV owners live, how they drive, and who can benefit from V2X technology, this project generates insights to support a more flexible and data-driven energy system.

The aim of the project is to reduce costs and increase the profitability of offshore energy installations through the development of dynamic cables. The development is done by simulating how the cable moves using fiber optics and modeling as well as surface treatment to minimize fouling, all to increase the lifespan and reduce maintenance.

The project works on strategies for the impact of network tariffs and other control signals on demand flexibility and the opportunities with machine-readable control signals, which are a prerequisite for smart vehicle charging.

In the future, wind power needs to provide different kinds of services to the electricity grid. This project analyzes the possibilities in a broader perspective. The focus is on the ability of an entire wind farm to produce both electricity and services to the grid at the same time in the most efficient way.

The transition to fossil-fuel independence and the electrification of the industrial and transportation sectors presents significant challenges for Region Västra Götaland. By gathering data and collaborating with various stakeholders, the project aims to address the challenges related to the electrification of the region.

The international research project CLUE aims to acquire knowledge on the optimized design, planning, and operation of local energy communities. Technical, economic and social aspects are investigated in the project for achieving an whole picture of opportunities and challenges.

Research project to build competence on how the capacity utilisaton in the electric power grid is affected through the use of System Integrity Protection Schemes (SIPS). The project includes PhD candidates at Lund University and the Royal University of Science and Technology, with a reference group including Svenska kraftnät, Statnett, Fingrid, E.O

Reseach project with the objective to develop and demonstrate methods for monitoring and contorl of the Nordic Power System. The project was conducted as a Swedish-Norwegian collaboration, under the lead of the Transmission System Operators Svenska kraftnät & Statnett.

The overall goal of the project is to contribute with knowledge so that electric roads for heavy traffic can be established on a large scale and thus enable a transition to a fossil-free and energy-efficient transport system almost free from emissions.

The project aims to increase knowledge of electricity consumers' view on their role in future sustainable energy systems, and in doing so focuses on their drivers and barriers to contributing in the maintaining of balance between power supply and demand in local electricity grids.

The amount of electricity from wind power is continuously increasing, it is therefore important that the wind power contribute to a stable and robust grid in the future. In this project RISE is focusing on examine the possible and cost-efficient contribution of wind power to ensure frequency stability to the grid.

As the energy system evolves, the requirements for the components in the system increase. This project develops measurement technology that contributes to more efficient use of the energy distribution system, driven by a transition to more renewable energy.

The Smart Grid concept means integrating Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in power grids, which allows for automatic monitoring. ICT systems are subject to cyber attacks that harm the power grid, business interests and people's safety. The goal of the SEGRID project was to improve the defense of Smart Grids against cyber attacks.

Alternatives to traditional network expansion are needed to ensure sustainable development of the power grids. New technologies, methods, and markets are emerging to provide increased flexibility in consumption, generation, and power transfer capacity. The ANM4L project will develop solutions to enable integration of renewables with the agility required from developments in demand and production.
