Measurements form the basis of decisions in all industries, from product development and manufacturing to trade and research. Whether automated control systems are used in the process industry or manual quality checks are performed, the reliability of the measurements affects product quality and operational efficiency. Incorrect measurements can result in products being discarded, extra work being required, unnecessary costs being incurred, and, in some cases, serious consequences for health and safety. Accurate, traceable measurements that meet legal requirements are crucial for competitiveness, product quality, and trust throughout the value chain. RISE can support you with quality-assured measurement technology throughout the entire measurement chain. The Swedish government has appointed RISE as Sweden's National Metrology Institute. According to the Swedish constitution, RISE is responsible for maintaining quality-assured measurement technology for 32 different physical quantities, which are currently distributed across 14 national measurement sites. We calibrate measuring instruments in all areas of measurement in our laboratories and at our customers' premises. This is supplemented by certification according to international standards (OIML, WELMEC) and the development of new measurement technology for future needs. We ensure that your measurements are of the right quality, even for advanced applications such as AI models, by inventorying instrument parks, assessing requirement levels and optimising measurement processes.

RISE is Sweden's NMI (National Metrology Institute) and, according to the Swedish constitution, is responsible for the fundamental measurement quantities in the International System of Units, SI.

The National Laboratory for time and frequency offers calibration of time and frequence via GNSS.

Technology development in the society is progressing faster. Determination of position, navigation and time is part of daily life regardless of whether one buys a bus ticket, purchase food, communicates via mobile phone or navigate. In order for these functions to function faultlessly, there must be a tracible distribution of PNT.

The basis for a meter being the same length in Stockholm as in Tokyo, and for efficient world trade, research and industry, is traceability through international comparisons and national standards. Without assured traceability, companies risk producing faulty products, incurring increased costs and losing the confidence of their customers. National measurement laboratories represent the top level of the metrological chain, carrying out measurements with the lowest possible uncertainty, which enables the calibration of all measuring instruments throughout the traceability pyramid. As Sweden's National Metrology Institute, RISE operates 14 national measurement laboratories covering 32 physical quantities, and represents Sweden in international metrology contexts through EURAMET and the Mutual Recognition Arrangement (MRA). RISE's national measurement laboratories offer advanced calibrations with the lowest possible measurement uncertainties for those requiring the highest level of metrology. We maintain national standards such as the national kilogram, the UTC(SP) timescale and fixed-point cells for temperature, and we can calibrate your reference instruments directly against these. Through long-term research and development, we create new measurement methods and standards that are adapted to future technology and industrial needs. We also carry out international comparison measurements to ensure that Swedish calibration certificates are recognised globally, facilitating your exports and international collaborations.
