Certification of energy mapping

Purpose

According to the current law on energy mapping in large companies (EKL 2014:266), companies that employ at least 250 people and have an annual turnover of over 50 million euros, or a balance sheet total exceeding 43 million euros, are required to conduct energy mapping. According to legislation that will come into force by October 2025, the obligation to conduct energy mapping will instead be based on energy consumption. The results of the mapping must be reported to the Swedish Energy Agency.

Depending on the size of the energy consumption, the energy mapping can be carried out by a certified energy mapper, in-house for companies certified according to ISO 50001, or by extending their ISO 14001 certification to include energy mapping.

By conducting the energy mapping within the framework of the environmental management system:

• the organization performs its own energy mapping
• the organization gains knowledge and skills development during the process
• areas with potential for efficiency improvements are identified
• an action program is established
• the foundation is laid for improving energy performance and thereby reducing energy costs
• the legislation in the area is complied with

Process

Contact Certification at RISE to apply for an extension of the certification to also include the requirements according to EKL.

The company needs to further qualify a person or a group according to the competence requirements in STEMFS 2014:2. Thereafter, you conduct the mapping according to an appropriate standard, such as ISO 50002 or SS-EN 16247.

With the help of your documentation, RISE will determine an appropriate timeframe for reviewing the mapping. The review takes place both on-site at your location and as a document review. The process is similar in many ways to an environmental certification.

When the organization meets the requirements for energy mapping, a certificate for ISO 14001 extended with energy mapping is issued.
