Battery safety

Lithium-ion batteries give us amazing opportunities, but there are also challenges to overcome. Among other things, you need to consider safety aspects such as the risks involved and how to prevent them.

Target group

The course is aimed at engineers who are about to start working with batteries, and also those who need in-depth knowledge of battery safety.

Course objectives

On completion of the course, you will understand the risks involved in testing and handling batteries. You will also be able to apply this knowledge to prevent the risks.

Content

  • Battery safety – what can happen, risk factors, preventive measures
  • What are the risks – short circuit, overcharge, overdischarge, external heating, thermal runaway and thermal propagation
  • Battery handling risk analysis and battery testing
  • Risk identification (severity level, probability and risk)
  • Potential failures at cell level propagating to system level
  • Safety protection and safety systems
  • Examples of safety standards

Prerequisites:

Have completed the course Introduction to lithium-ion batteries or have equivalent skills.

Format:

The course is delivered digitally or physically.

Duration:

3 hours
