Sofie forskar om energiomställningen ur ett socialt perspektiv. Hennes forskningsintressen inkluderar deltagande i energisystemet, decentralisering av elnätet, smart teknikanvändning och energirättvisa, med ett fokus på hushåll och medborgarnas perspektiv.
Sofie disputerade i mars 2026 på KTH inom ämnet Hållbarhetsstudier med sin avhandling "Household roles in the future electricity grid – expectations, realities and renegotiations".
