AM Center Enters Phase Two – Are You In?

Since its launch in 2021, the Application Center for Additive Manufacturing at RISE has grown rapidly, brought together extensive expertise, and made significant investments in advanced equipment. Together with our 20 partners, we’ve explored everything from innovative modelling strategies to the balance between flexibility and robustness across different additive manufacturing processes. We’ve pushed the boundaries of large-scale robotic AM, addressed key post-processing challenges, and investigated pathways to mass production using various materials.

But this is just the beginning.

Now, four years in, it’s time to chart our next chapter. In 2026, the center will enter a new phase – and we’re asking: will you be part of the journey?

Information sessions

We are hosting three online information sessions this autumn. Registration will open shortly.

  • October 23, at 08:30 to 09:30 CET
  • November 12, at 12:00 to 13:00 CET
  • December 2, at 8:30 to 09:30 CET

Building on strengths, unlocking new value

AM Center 2.0 will stand steady on the strong foundation of its predecessor. Our vision remains unchanged: To create a leading collaborative and innovative co-creation platform where actors along the value chain can work together to solve common technical and competence-related challenges in a safe and secure manner. As with any pioneering initiative, the first phase highlighted areas for improvement – lessons that now give us a valuable opportunity to move forward with greater impact. We start from a strong position, with infrastructure in place and strategic goals defined, giving us a solid platform for progress.

Since AM Center's launch, additive manufacturing has advanced considerably, and companies worldwide have matured in their readiness to embrace it. Increasingly, organisations are seeking to scale up production and move towards industrialisation. While the original AM Center primarily concentrated on materials and technology, its successor will introduce a third vital dimension: business value and operational excellence.

What's the business case?

Drawing on four years of research, AM Center, together with AMPOWER, has released a white paper that provides a practical, data-driven framework for assessing the business value of AM. This work will continue in AM Center 2.0. Access the white paper “How to calculate the business value of Additive Manufacturing and distributed production” here.

Despite its growing use across industries, additive manufacturing remains a fast-evolving field. Significant challenges still need to be overcome to reduce barriers to broader and faster industrial adoption, underscoring the importance of a center such as ours. Among the most pressing are:

  • Skills and competence
  • Process repeatability and reliability
  • Material limitations
  • Surface quality and post-processing needs
  • Difficulties in scaling for mass production
  • Unclear or evolving return on investment (ROI)
  • Lack of industry-wide standards and certifications
  • Environment, health and safety

What you stand to gain

As we enter the second phase, we’re eager to rekindle existing partnerships and forge new ones. Joining AM Center 2.0 offers your organisation a unique opportunity to address the real-world challenges of implementing and scaling additive manufacturing. Membership enables you to:

  • Work alongside experienced specialists who can guide you through the complexities of adoption and scale-up.
  • Experiment with new solutions in a safe environment, allowing you to move faster while minimising risk before committing to full investment.
  • Forge cross-industry and research partner collaborations, and benefit from a learning environment where shared knowledge and experience makes it easier to avoid common pitfalls and uncertainties.
  • Develop proven pathways to industrialisation, ensuring your investments translate into reliable and repeatable results.
  • Link technology to business value, supporting your organisation in achieving both operational efficiency and strategic impact.

We warmly welcome organisations of all sizes and sectors – both from Sweden and across Europe. Our goal is to once again bring together a vibrant mix of large and small enterprises, spanning diverse industries, including suppliers of materials, machinery, and software.
