SIP-IoT SecureCare: Secure and Reliable IoT for Better Living and Elderly Care
The goal of this project is to design, implement, and deploy a model smart healthcare system for citizens, where the focus is not only on elderly care but also better life of healthy people.
There are a number of e-health initiatives on elderly care in homes around the world. In the existing digital-healthcare at home initiatives, the focus is on building applications using off-the-shelf sensor and communication devices. However, off-the-shelf e- health solutions in existing deployments, though advertised as IoT, use either proprietary solutions and/or use legacy closed- source protocols that are designed prior to the birth of IoT.
The goal of this project is to design, implement, and deploy a model smart-healthcare system for citizens, where the focus is not only on elderly care but also better life of healthy people. In addition to using open Internet protocols and standards for smart connectivity and reliability (such as IPv6, 6LoWPAN, 6TiSCH, etc.), the fundamental focus of this project will be enabling lightweight yet automated government-grade end-to-end security between households and smart-cares providers, which is completely lacking in existing solutions. The project will be a model full-system deployment that will break the existing vendor- locked barrier and show that solutions based on open standards are cost-effective, democratic, reliable, and at the same time most secure. It will encourage competition among vendors and will allow deploying solutions from multiple vendors in a single deployment. Ultimately, it will lower the cost of digital-healthcare at home deployments.
The aim of this project is not to develop another e-health vertical silo but provide a horizontal solution that can be democratically replicated to different municipalities by existing as well as new healthcare companies, boosting innovations.
