Accredited radio testing according to EU, US and Canadian standards radio equipment

Name of service (page headline, shown in promos – maximum of 70 characters incl. spaces): Testing of Radio Communication Equipment Lead (include SEO-words and the main benefits for your target groups. Stick to one paragraph, maximum 2-3 sentences):

We perform accredited testing of radio characteristics for type approval in the EU, USA and Canada and verify and analyse various radio communication equipment requirements.

Purpose/Benefit:

In order to place a radio product on the European market, it must be CE marked according to the Radio Directive (RED). Among other things, the essential requirement "effective use of spectrum" must be met.

One way to meet this requirement, is to perform testing according to the organization's ETSI harmonized standards. If such standards are not available, an "EC-type examination certificate" issued by a notified body, Notified Body (NB) is required. RISE is a Notified Body for the Radio Directive.

Accredited radio tests from Hz to GHz

We offer accredited radio testing according to the most common European standards (ETSI) for both analogue and digital radio equipment from the low frequency Hz range up to the microwave range (GHz).

FCC testing for the US market

For the US market, it is a requirement that all radio transmitters must be certified / type-approved by the US frequency authority, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). RISE is approved for FCC testing of the most common radio equipment over the frequency range 9 kHz to 220 GHz.

Radio transmitters for placement in the US and Canadian markets

RISE, as the only one in Sweden, has been appointed by the FCC to be a TCB (Telecommuncation Certification Body). This means that we have the opportunity to perform the certification required by the FCC for radio transmitters and thus issue approval for the US market.

We can also perform equivalent tests for Canada (ISED) and assist with certifications / approvals (FCB) for the Canadian market.

RISE is a "Recognized laboratory" for both FCC and ISED.

EMC testing of radio transmitters

EMC testing of radio transmitters consists of two parts. Emission requirements, which impose requirements on what the equipment sends out for undesirable emissions on cables and power supply, as well as immunity requirements which impose requirements on the interference resistance of radio equipment. Testing is performed both radiated and conducted on external cables.

RISE can offer accredited EMC testing according to the most common parts of the standard series ETSI EN 301 489 and other international EMC standards. We also have long experience of EMC testing in specific areas such as military and vehicle testing.

RISE provides a test report with accreditation status that confirms that a third party testing institute has tested your products in accordance with applicable directives and / or standards.

Accelerated corrosion testing in the laboratory is very important for examining and comparing the corrosion resistance of materials, material combinations, surface treatments and more. The tests are usually standardized and the results from different studies can therefore be compared. However, the results of these surveys cannot be directly translated into what happens in a real road environment. Due to the complexity of the road environment, with many different factors affecting the corrosion of vehicles, mobile field testing is often used as a the "true value" when comparing the results with accelerated corrosion tests.

Accelerated corrosion testing is mainly developed for traditional materials like carbon steel and galvanized steel, which means that the correlation between results obained from accelerated and field testing can be low for other new materials used in automotive applications. Tests in real road environments are then a valuable addition to assess the corrosion resistance.

Tests in real environment

The testbed for mobile corrosion testing consists of about 10 truck trailers in traffic between Stockholm and Gothenburg as well as Stockholm and Malmö. These routes are among the world's most corrosive road environments due to frequent use of de-icing salt. The test bed offers exposure of samples on the underbody of these truck trailers. Sensors are used to to measure relative hmidity, temperature and corrosion of carbon steel and zinc during the actual exposure. There is also space to install additional equipment, sensors or specimens based on requirements from the customer. The results of the mobile test are then evaluated using standardized methods.

Testbed for atmospheric corrosion testing

Atmospheric corrosion testing
Atmospheric corrosion testing

Corrosion testing under field conditions is important to be able to obtain real and relevant data on material life and degradation in different type of environments. For atmospheric corrosion, this can be done by exposing test panels or industrial products in real environments and then evaluating the corrosion using standardized methods.

Atmospheric corrosion testing can be performed for metals, paint systems and finished products used in, for example, infrastructure, construction, marine environments and the automotive industry to examine its resistance to a specific environment. Corrosion testing can also be performed to meet society's / industry's need to know how corrosion changes over time due to the impact on climate and the environment. Produced data can also be used to verify results from accelerated corrosion tests in corrosion chambers (for more information see accelerated corrosion testing).

Corrosion testing in different environments

Within Test bed for atmospheric corrosion testing, it is possible to perform corrosion testing in different environments such as marine-, rural-, UV / sand abrasion- and subarctic atmosphere. This means that there are test beds in different types of environments that represent different corrosivity classes. There are six corrosivity classes according to EN ISO 9223 which include very low corrosivity (C1), low corrosivity (C2), medium corrosivity (C3), high corrosivity (C4), very high corrosivity (C5) and extreme corrosivity (CX).

The corrosivity class is determined annually for the materials carbon steel, zinc, copper and aluminum for all of our field stations that are included in the Test Bed for atmospheric corrosion testing. Environmental data such as air temperature, humidity, precipitation, concentration of SO2 and chloride deposition in accordance with EN ISO 8565 are measured monthly and reported in annual reports.

Our field stations

RISE offers atmospheric exposures on field stations in Sweden (Bohus-Malmön, Kristineberg, Ryda Kungsgård (Uppland) and Gällivare), France (Brest) and the United Arab Emirates (Dubai) with the following corrosivity categories.

RISE offers assembly of samples as well as evaluation during and after the end of exposure according to the request of the customer. The most common approach is to expose flat samples in 45 ° South and rain-protected in 90 ° North in accordance with EN ISO 8565. At the largest test beds, ie Kvarnvik and Kattesand, it is also possible to assemble your own samples or products and evaluate their performance at your chosen interval.

There are no restrictions on the size of the products and advanced systems can be advantageously exposed at these test beds. Another advantage is the opportunity to expose samples at different test stations, and thereby different corrosivity classes, which enable an assessment of the product's durability at the different classes.

You are welcome to contact us to discuss the best approach to atmospheric corrosion testing as of your needs.

Name of service (page headline, shown in promos – maximum of 70 characters incl. spaces): EMC testing – Marine Lead (include SEO-words and the main benefits for your target groups. Stick to one paragraph, maximum 2-3 sentences):

RISE performs tests to meet marine EMC requirements on everything from components to systems so that they can be approved for use.

Purpose/Benefit:

We perform tests according to a variety of standards and certifications. Among other things, we perform tests against marine requirements such as "Det Norske Veritas standard for certification No 2.4", which includes EMC and IACS E10, a test specification for marine type approval and the general standard for CE marking of marine navigation and communication equipment EN 60945.

EMC testing and combination testing in many areas.

Many of the sub-elements of, for example, the general EMC standards EN 61000-6-2/ EN 61000-6-4, which are common for equipment in industrial environments, also occur in the marine tests.

We have developed test packages that make it easier for manufacturers to get their products approved for both onshore industrial and offshore applications. By seeking coordination gains, you save a lot of time. In addition, if the highest test severity is used for each sub-sample, the product can cover more markets.

RISE also coordinates and performs the EMC tests with climate, environmental and some special tests, such as the "compass safe distance test". RISE can also offer certification against the Measuring Instrument Directive. We know that standards are required and together with the customer we develop a suitable test plan.

RISE delivers a test report with accreditation status, confirming that a 3rd party testing institute has tested your products.

Calibration of power quality instruments

Name of service (page headline, shown in promos – maximum of 70 characters incl. spaces): Calibration of power quality instruments Lead (include SEO-words and the main benefits for your target groups. Stick to one paragraph, maximum 2-3 sentences):

We offer calibrations for power quality parameters such as voltage, current and power for non-sinusoidal signals.

Purpose/Benefit:

Power quality is a summary concept for assessing the quality of delivered electricity. Voltage level, distortion and transients are some of the parameters that determine the quality. The instruments used to measure power quality are therefore multi-function instruments which are usually called power quality instruments.

Non-sinusoidal signals

Power quality deficiencies are often due to loads on the network, but can also be due to natural phenomena such as lightning strikes or incorrect connection actions by grid owners. The proportion of "bad" and "sensitive" loads has increased over the years, while the deregulation of the electricity market has meant that more parties are involved in the supply of electricity today, compared to before. Today, it is no longer possible to assume that all the voltages and currents of the electric power grid are almost sinusoidal. An increasing proportion of the motor loads are inverter controlled and the offices are filled with computers, IT equipment and so on. Virtually all lighting in offices and business premises and industries consist of fluorescent tubes or LED lamps. These loads do not draw sinusoidal current and therefore produce large harmonic currents which in turn give rise to harmonic voltages. Although conditions are far from ideal, measuring instruments are often calibrated for ideal sinusoidal voltages and currents. This is partly due to tradition, partly since it is significantly more difficult to measure with non-sinusoidal signals.

The need for measuring instruments that measure correctly even under these conditions has increased greatly, both ordinary instruments and power quality instruments. In many measuring contexts, for example in quality assurance, contracts or disputes, it is necessary to have calibrated measuring instruments. Reference instruments are needed that cannot only verify instruments under ideal conditions. At RISE, we can therefore offer calibration for voltage, current and power for non-sinusoidal signals.

By calibrating your instruments and measurement systems with us, you get high quality measurements and minimize losses due to measurement errors. Regular calibration will give you information about how stable the instrument measures.

Method (what/which methods are used to perform the service):

The basic function of a power quality instrument is to measure voltage, current, power and power factor. These functions are calibrated in the same way as a standard wattmeter. An extension of the basic function is to measure and save temporary peaks and dips in the voltage. The most common extra function of a power quality instrument is harmonic measurement, either to measure the level of individual harmonics or to measure the overall distortion level. Another common feature of these instruments is transient and flicker measurements.

With digital sampling technology as a basis, we have constructed a reference instrument, a digital sampling wattmeter, which, in addition to calibrating the above-mentioned quantities, can also be used for calibrating reactive and apparent power, power factor and total harmonic distortion.

Our reference instrument has, partly through our own verifications, partly through international comparison measurements, been found to have a measurement uncertainty that is within ±150 ppm in most situations. Through extensive research and development work, we can now offer calibration of even the most accurate instruments on the market.

Delivery (what does the client get after performed service – e.g. a report, certificate etc.):
