The research in Testbed PFAS aims to find cleaning techniques for PFAS-polluted soil and water. The project also evaluates PFAS-free fire extinguishers for liquid fires.

Here is a recently published article by Dahlbom,S., Mallin,T. & Bobert, M. about the implemented fire extinguishing tests.

The film below shows two parallell fire courses for two different fire extinguishers, where one contains PFAS and the other is without PFAS.

• The Swedish Geotechnical Institute has received SEK 2 million to investigate state-owned areas that may contain PFAS. The investigation is conducted together with the Swedish Armed Forces and the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency.

• The Swedish Armed Forces have identified 70 PFAS-contaminated areas in Sweden and present a list of these.

• Two of Echa's scientific committees support a proposal to prohibit the use of the PFAS group PFHxA . A decision will be made in 2022.

• The Swedish Chemicals Inspectorate has submitted a letter of intent to Echa. The intention is to prohibit all 4700 PFAS-chemicals from the year 2025.
