ALEKSEJS UDALCOVS received his M.Sc. degree in telecommunications and the degree of Doctor of Engineering Science (Dr.sc.ing.) in electronics and telecommunications from Riga Technical University (Latvia) in 2011 and in 2015, respectively.
Between 2012 and 2016, he was a visiting Ph.D. Researcher within the Swedish Institute Visby programme, and then a Postdoctoral Researcher within the EU project GRIFFON at KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm, Sweden. In the middle of 2015, he joined the RISE/KTH Kista High Speed Transmission Lab. After receiving the research grant on “SCENE – Spectrum, cost and energy trade-offs in optical networks“ from the Swedish ICT TNG consortium, he moved to RISE Research Institutes of Sweden. Since 2019 he is a Senior Scientist at RISE working in cooperation with industry and academia providing his expertise in communication technologies. His main research interests are within the PHY–layer aspects in optical transport and photonic-wireless networks.
Dr. Udalcovs is a (co-)author of nearly 100 papers in peer-reviewed international journals and conferences. Furthermore, he has participated in numerous experimental activities in a number of research groups (in Sweden – KTH, RISE; in Germany– VPIphotonics GmbH; in Belgium–Ghent University; in France – III-V Lab; in Denmark – DTU Fotonik) on fibre-optic transmission experiments, modelling of fibre-optic links and (sub-)systems, and optical network planning. He is a Member of IEEE.
