Technical visit - Subsea road tunnel safari
A joint technical visit togehter with FIVE will be organized Tuesday April 25 at 15:00 CET.
The technical visit of ISTSS 2023 is a 120 km safari including 60 km of subsea road tunnels. The Stavanger region is a high-density area for subsea road tunnels, offering the opportunity to observe tunnel safety development as a time travel from the 1990s to the 2020s. We will travel by bus through four subsea tunnels, including the currently longest and deepest road tunnel in the world, the 14.4 km Ryfast tunnel. As part of the safari, we will visit the Rogfast construction site. When Rogfast is completed, around 2031, it will provide a 26.7 km link under the Bokn fjord and become the new world record holder in both length and depth. On the Rogfast construction site, the Norwegian Public Road Administration will present the project, provide a lecture on safety issues and let us in on the progress of construction. The safari will start with a briefing at the conference venue about the tunnels and their safety track record. In total 150 places are available, distributed through the registration site on a first come, first served basis.
The technical visit is organized together with ISTSS 2023 event partners; Vital infrastructure arena and University of Stavanger.
