Innovating Remanufacturing

Remanufacturing is a circular strategy with strong potential to scale up, support sustainable business and reduce environmental impact. It also helps build resilience in a turbulent world.

The Innovating Remanufacturing Project has two main objectives:

  1. To provide practical support for companies that want to take concrete steps toward transitioning to a circular business model through remanufacturing.
  2. To contribute to the development of a more resilient and robust society through circular flows of components and products.

Project goals:

  • Practical support for companies working with remanufacturing, including:
    – Disassembly sessions with experts (remanufacturing, various technologies) to foster learning and innovation in different areas such as design, business, product and process.
    – Pilot development and implementation of products and business models tailored for remanufacturing.
    – Helping companies understand remanufacturing's potential to reduce climate impact and increase resilience.
  • Development of business models for remanufacturing, including economic evaluation.
  • Studying appropriate methods for "state of health" assessments for selected products and pilots.
  • Exploring digitalisation to improve the efficiency of remanufacturing processes.
  • Developing guidance for initiating remanufacturing processes and business models, to enable broad dissemination across different industrial sectors.
  • Contributing to resource efficiency, lower climate impact and increased resilience in both industry and society through greater uptake of remanufacturing.

The project will generate practical cases and key insights that help increase understanding of how remanufacturing can be scaled to industrial levels. The overarching ambition is to support broader implementation of remanufacturing in Swedish industry, thereby strengthening resilience, competitiveness and resource efficiency.
