Contact LarsDissolving pulp is an important product used in the manufacture of fiber materials, which are used in the textile industry.
With the high sustainability focus today, the dissolving pulp is partly a substitute to synthetic textile materials made from oil and partly a substitute / complement to cotton, that requires large areas of land to be grown and large volumes of water for irrigation.
The field of dissolving pulp includes both manufacturing and evaluation of the pulp for different applications. The main application is the viscose process but there are also other processes for regenerating the cellulose and different types of cellulose derivatives. This field also includes modification of fibers such as pulp fibers, natural fibers such as cotton and recycled textile fibers. The expertise in the field includes process optimization of the chemical pulping process, the viscose process and subsequent spinning process as well as treatment of fibers for more efficient modification and improved dissolution of the cellulose.
Our expertise
RISE has extensive experience and deep knowledge of both main pulping processes for the production of dissolving pulp: the sulphite process and the prehydrolysis sulphate process. The activities in the field include optimization of the process parameters in the various unit processes within cooking and bleaching with respect to both energy and chemical consumption and on the properties of the final product. In this field, RISE has also worked extensively with modification of recycled textile fibers, primarily cotton fibers, as decolorization or activation of the fiber wall for subsequent steps.
RISE is unique in Europe to have a complete set-up of pilots under one roof; from chipping, digesting and bleaching via viscose solution to viscose yarn as a final product in a spin pilot. In addition, there are opportunities to test other processes than the viscose process to regenerate the cellulose and to examine different types of raw materials and their suitability for producing regenerated cellulose and different types of cellulose derivatives. We can offer you tailored projects through the entire chain from raw material based on lignocellulose to finished yarn. Customers can be existing dissolving cellulose producers, future players in this area and various research initiatives. In addition to the pilots, there are options for complete analysis and evaluation of the respective process steps and the properties of the final products in our laboratories.
We always work in close dialogue with our customers to ensure value.
