The project is developing a biogas platform for agriculture to optimize residual streams and arable land, promoting fossil-free food production and climate-neutral farming. It supports Sweden’s goal of net-zero emissions by 2045 and strengthens self-sufficiency, benefiting both customers and society through sustainable solutions.
Sweden aims to achieve net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2045, with a specific challenge to make agriculture fossil-free by 2030. At the same time, the demand for biogas in Sweden is expected to increase at least fivefold by 2030. The proposed project, implemented by RISE in collaboration with the Västra Götaland Region (VGR), aims to develop and scale up a concept based on a "biogas platform". This platform enables agriculture to more efficiently and sustainably utilize its waste streams and arable land. The project focuses on exploring how biogas production through a biogas-based biorefinery concept can improve environmental benefits and resource efficiency. By adding process steps, such as protein extraction, the project aims to support fossil-free food production and contribute to a more climate-neutral agriculture. The goal is to create a sustainable and resilient agricultural sector in Sweden, which promotes circular economic practices and increases self-sufficiency.
