Shared micromobility as part of a multimodal transport system

The project aims to leverage big data analysis to identify the correlations between shared micromobility, transit, and other modes of transport in various urban contexts. By combining the results with user behavior models, the project will develop planning and optimization methods for multimodal mobility solutions that integrate micromobility.

The use of shared micromobility services (SMS) requires a quantitative analysis to comprehend their usage and interaction with existing transport modes. A multi-modal SMS-transit system should be an integrated transport system instead of simple combinations. This necessitates an understanding of how SMS replaces other transport modes in different urban contexts, as well as planning and optimization methods that facilitate a shift to energy-efficient modes, along with efficient management tools to shift heterogeneous users to multi-modal SMS-transit systems.

Leveraging big data from multiple sources, eFAST aims to decipher the interplay between SMS and other transport modes in various city areas beyond a general overview at the aggregated city level. High-resolution models will be developed to estimate the transport modes replaced by each individual SMS trip and to analyze its environmental impact.

With a focus on increased accessibility and connectivity, while ensuring equity and sustainability, eFAST will explore joint planning and optimization methods to integrate SMS into the transit system, attract modal shifts to energy-efficient transport, and ensure an efficient and seamless transportation experience.

Employing human-centered design, eFAST will integrate user acceptance and modal shift behaviors for SMS integration, while considering psychological factors and user heterogeneity in travel contexts and socio-economic attributes.

By combining the results, eFAST aims to provide support to cities with different contexts in planning for a future energy-efficient mobility, with SMS as part of the energy-efficient society.
