Archival durability for writing materials

Permanent documents are those that may be kept for several hundred years if stored correctly in archival conditions. The ageing of a material is often evaluated in terms of the change of one or more chemical or physical properties with time. Evaluation of a document with recording requires extensive testing of its properties.

Certification

Official authorities in Sweden must use materials and equipment which produce documents meeting the requirements in the Swedish National Archives Regulations. The easiest way for authorities to verify the permeance of materials is to choose certified products. Products certified for use in the preparation of documents to be kept for long periods of time are listed, follow the link in the right margin.

RISE is an accredited body for testing and certification in accordance with Swedish National Archives Regulations (RA-FS 2006:4).
