He is Co-Chair of the Video Quality Experts Group (VQEG). Kjell’s research interests are in Quality of Experience (QoE) for video and display quality assessment (2D/3D, VR/AR, immersive). He is associate editor of the Elsevier journal Signal Processing: Image Communication and has written more than hundred articles in international peer-reviewed scientific journals and conferences.
In 1997, Kjell got employed by the former Institute of Optical Research to study perceptual models of video quality. The institute did transform over time first to Acreo and then later to RISE. During his time at the RISE and its predecessor Kjell has built the technical area and research group called Visual Media Quality. Direct sales have involved companies and organizations such as: FIFA, TCO Development, Facebook, SAAB, Trafikverket, Electrolux, LG, Samsung and Intertek.
Education
Kjell obtained his M.Sc at Royal Institute of Technology in Engineering Physics in 1984 and a PhD in Computer Science specializing in image processing in 1994, with the title of his thesis: “Active exploration of static scenes”. As a PhD student he spent one and half year at Tokyo University in Japan and as a Post-doc he performed research at the University of Surrey in England.
