Contact EmiliaWelcome to our Knowledge Exchange Forum where we explore how different materials can store energy at various temperatures and for different applications.
Thermal energy storage (TES) plays a crucial role in facilitating the integration of renewable energy sources (RES) by capturing excess energy for later use. The method of energy storage largely depends on its intended application. Materials, temperature ranges, use cases, and the maturity of the technology (TRL) can vary widely.
In collaboration with the LoCoMoSa project, we will explore how diverse materials are suitable for storing different temperature ranges and their various applications – from molten salt to phase changing materials (PCM) and thermochemical materials (TCM).
- Julius Weiss, Project Manager at Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems ISErepresenting the LoCoMoSa project will present the characteristics of molten salt and the extreme temperatures it can store.
- Andrea Frazzica, Senior Researcher and Project Leader at CNR-ITAE representing the ThumbsUp project will talk about thermochemical materials (TCM) used for storing thermal energy up to a week.
- Meixi Liu, Research Fellow at the University of Birmingham, also representing the ThumbsUp project will explain the bio-based phase changing materials (PCM) used for intraday storage
- The discussion will be moderated by Emilia Pisani and Ola Gustafsson, Project Managers at RISE
The knowledge exchange forums are interactive meetings during which a series of subjects are presented and discussed among the participants. These sessions will not only allow engaged stakeholders to directly exchange with each-other, but also learn about the latest project breakthroughs and create a network for crowd-sourcing solutions to challenges we will eventually face throughout the development of the project.
Each session focuses on different topics and begins with a presentation by a guest expert involved in the project, followed by an interactive dialogue with the participants.
