Contact KaisaRISE has broad and deep expertise in timber construction. Through technical innovations, modularization, and clear procurement requirements, we are strengthening timber's position as a future-proof material – adapted for both climate change and aesthetics.
Wood has great potential in construction, but it remains underutilized. For wood to be able to compete seriously with climate-impacting materials such as concrete and steel, a concerted effort is required: technological development, new regulations, and increased market acceptance. Circular solutions must be implemented as early as the design phase, with a focus on demountable and reusable components. Public procurement needs to set requirements for sustainability and circularity so that wood is prioritized in construction projects. At the same time, it is necessary to ensure quality and safety in wooden buildings with proven solutions for, for example, moisture, fire safety, and acoustics.
For wood to take its natural place in the building environments of the future, digital tools, skills development initiatives, and a greater understanding of the advantages of wood among architects, planners, and property owners are also required. Through collaboration between technology, design, and policy, new standards and hybrid solutions can be developed that make wood a flexible, attractive, and long-term sustainable material choice.
RISE has broad and deep expertise in wood construction. We work with advanced building systems, fire-safe solutions, and tested models for moisture and acoustics. Through our test and demonstration environments and research projects, we support the development of innovative, modular timber components that enable reuse and circular flows.
We also develop design tools and digital solutions for wood details, making it easier for architects and designers to use wood in creative and sustainable ways. We support municipalities and public actors in developing procurement requirements that promote the use of wood, and offer advice on how hybrid building systems can be combined for increased functionality and load-bearing capacity.
By spreading knowledge, educating, and inspiring—and by working actively with both policy and innovation—we are creating the conditions for a construction industry where wood plays a key role in the transition to a climate-neutral society.
