Lab for printability testing of packaging materials

With our equipment, we can make cost-effective test prints on a lab scale and perform advanced analyzes related to print and material properties to quantify and predict print quality, but also work with troubleshooting, for example in complaints.

Mottle, missing dots, gloss variation, uncovered areas, stripiness and print sharpness

We also help with full-scale printing at our customers. Over the years, we have developed a large number of analysis methods based on advanced image analysis technology for measuring print quality, which we combine with sophisticated characterization of the substrate's properties. We can measure substrate properties such as:

  • Topography
  • Absorption
  • Compressibility
  • Coating layer variation
  • Optical properties

These properties are used to be able to quantify properties that affect print quality and are applicable to both conventional and digital printing techniques for paperboard, paper and corrugated cardboard. We have extensive experience in predicting printability by measuring material properties on unprinted material and then filtering and combining these results.

Examples of important print quality properties we measure that affect print quality:

  • Print mottle
  • Missing dots
  • Uncovered areas
  • Print sharpness
  • Gloss variation

We are happy to help with troubleshooting, such as what a certain print defect depend on. We often use light microscopy as a first aid.

We can also develop tailor-made analysis methods for implementation in the customer's own lab.
