Type approval is a national certification system that helps you demonstrate that your construction product, building system, or prefabricated structure meets the requirements of the Swedish Planning and Building Act (PBL) and the regulations of the National Board of Housing, Building and Planning, when used according to its intended function.
Purpose
With a type approval, you receive confirmation that your solution complies with legal requirements. This provides assurance for developers, installers, and other stakeholders: the product or system has been tested, certified, and approved by an independent party.
RISE offers type approval as an accredited certification. The product's properties are verified through testing or calculation, and the manufacturing process is linked to a quality-assured production control with third-party review.
Process
The certification process begins with the submission of an application along with documentation for the relevant product, structure, or system. RISE reviews the material and plans the next steps in dialogue with the client. Once the requirements are deemed fulfilled, a type approval is issued.
Type approval follows the certification rules published by RISE (see link below). If a product-specific certification rule exists, it is applied. If not, our general certification rule “CR 100” is used, which enables certification even for innovative and complex solutions.

- Pre-assessed properties that simplify planning
- Right to use Boverket’s fork mark
- Certificate confirming that the product has been tested and certified by a third party, valid for up to five years with the possibility of renewal
