Cleanliness test - Technical cleanliness – at RISE

We perform cleanliness test, an important part of quality assurance. If the particles are not removed, they can have devastating consequences and shorten the life, function and reliability of the product. May also be called cleanliness analysis, technical cleanliness, cleanliness measurement etc. We also design and hold cleanliness training.

Purpose

Our cleanliness analysis contains the following steps; extraction of particles from the surface, counting and basic characterization of the extracted particles. If requested, we can characterize the particles further in our scanning electron microscope with X-ray analysis. It helps you, as a customer, to trace the source of the particles in an easier way. It is common that the analysis is carried out according to specific company standards, e.g. Volvo STD 107-0002 or Scania STD4189/ STD4540 or according to general standards such as ISO16232 and VDA19

We also design and hold both basic and company-specific cleanliness training in the field of technical cleanliness, please contact us for more information.

RISE also wants to increase the skills at Swedish engineering companies within the cleanliness area. Therefore, we also offer courses and run a network, Center for technical cleanliness, where companies that are active in the area can become members. More information about the network can be found here: Center for technical cleanliness

All liquid systems, such as hydraulics, transmission and fuel systems contain particles of varying sizes. It is especially common with unwanted particles in new systems. If the particles not are removed they can have devastating consequences and shorten the life, function and reliability of the product.

Keywords: cleanliness test, cleanliness analysis, particle cleanliness, component cleanliness, particle counting, technical cleanliness, particle, particles, analysis, light microscope, automatic particle counting, gravimetric analysis, etc.

Method

We measure components’ cleanliness by:

  • maximum particle size
  • maximum amount of particles of a certain type or size
  • maximum weight of particles per part
  • cleanliness code (ISO-code), amount of particles/ml or particles/cm2
