Digitalization of Foam Glass Manufacturing

Fiber optic sensors, radar, and optical profiling are tools brought by RISE to digitize and optimize Hasopor’s manufacturing of foam glass. Foam glass is a lightweight land fill material that is 99.8% circular. A successful optimization of Hasopor’s production would have substaintial environmental impacts by replacement of competing products.

Foam glass manufacturing furnace

Foam glass is made of recycled glass in a continuous process in high temperature band furnaces. The temperature and thickness of the foam are key control parameters, and methods for continuous measurement of these was evaluated during the feasibility study. An overview of the needs and a plan for future digitization of the manufacturing process was made, and the path to commercialization of any new technologies needed was analyzed.
