Contact MarieAluminum is a material with exceptional properties such as strength, light weight and corrosion resistance. However, the primary production of aluminum is enormously energy-intensive, and we therefore need to increase the use of recycled aluminum. But the recycling process is not without challenges. Which are these and how can we help?
Although it is often said that aluminum can be recycled any number of times without adversely affecting its properties, the reality is more complicated. Recycled aluminum consists of scrap - old products that are remelted to be given new life into new components. The aluminum itself does not change when it is melted down, but the scrap can contain small amounts of impurities that can affect the properties of the material. However, with increased knowledge about the material and the recycling process, the possibilities with recycled material are very good.
Development support in forming and casting of circular aluminium
Do you want to use aluminum in a more sustainable and circular way? RISE can help you with expert services within the entire value chain, from design to recycling. We have extensive experience in research and development within sustainable aluminum and offer, among other things:
Advice on circular business models linked to aluminium
We also have a complete service offering in sheet metal forming which includes, among other things, services in material characterization, such as tensile tests to determine mechanical properties and formability testing to produce form limit curves. This can be used as a basis for process simulations with high accuracy.
In our pilot foundry, it is possible to produce sand cast components in an early stage of development where, e.g. can compare the results between using primary and recycled aluminium.
Through close collaboration with industry, academia and society, RISE creates sustainable solutions for the future. If you want to share our expertise, feel free to call or email us directly! You can find our contact details at the bottom of the page. We look forward to hear from you!
