The onshore wind trend is to build larger wind power units, which translates into the need for larger and higher capacity foundations. Anchoring systems are facing future technological challenges when it comes to design, fixation in the rock, installation process and standards. The objectives in PROWIND are to de-risk the whole rock adaptor design process and have a completely new rock adaptor concept ready for the market in terms of components reliability and survivability, all while incorporating new materials and design solutions beyond current practices. It has also been observed that the due diligence process is somewhat unclear and existing standards are being used to set the requirements for rock anchors mainly deals with the upper part of the anchor and not the fixation in the rock. The project will also facilitate the sector with guidelines for better understanding of the standards, as well as design tools for implementation.
