Holistic approach to improve data security of vehicles

Aim and goal

• Understand security challenges and associated safety, privacy, financial, and operational risks using a holistic approach
• Develop common best practices, guidelines and policies for the Swedish vehicle industry
• Investigate and adapt existing security-relevant technologies from other domains
• Investigate, develop, and integrate processes to ensure security
• Increase the Swedish capacity for research and innovation
• Develop internationally interconnected and competitive research and innovation environments in Sweden
• Promote participation of small and medium-sized companies, cross-industrial cooperation and cooperation between industry and higher education institutions

Challenge

With the advent of connected and autonomous vehicles, security is of increasing importance to the automotive industry albeit hard to address despite being directly linked to important attributes such as quality and safety.

Solution

By taking a unique holistic approach to ensure that security requirements influence all steps in the automotive development chain, we develop integration-ready security development processes aligned with existing safety processes, verification & validation methods that address security, investigate security mechanism properties, and look at methods to secure both wired and wireless communication.

Effect

The project delivers publications at both scientific and automotive conferences and will result in processes, methods, tools, models, and guidelines for the automotive industry to reach the goal of “security by design”.
